Fire, called nina in Quechua, is the element that purifies and transforms. In the Andean ceremony, the sacred fire receives the offerings, burns what must be released and illuminates the path of intention.\n\nThe fire ceremony is one of the most powerful and accessible of the Andean tradition. It takes place outdoors, with a fire lit from logs and wood, guided by a paqo or an experienced person.\n\nThe despachos are offered to the fire: bundles of coca, seeds, flowers, sweets and colored paper representing what we give thanks for or ask for. The smoke raises the offering toward Hanan Pacha, the world above.\n\nThe fire also burns what no longer serves us: we write down or name what we wish to release (fears, resentments, blocks) and surrender it to the flames. It is a symbolic and deeply real act of liberation.\n\nTo hold a personal fire ceremony, choose a quiet moment, prepare your offering with intention, light the fire with respect and speak aloud or in silence. Give thanks to Pachamama and the apus, and allow the night to witness your rebirth.
